Title: FTDI Basic 5/3.3V programmer how to select 3.3V
Post by: krollad on September 22, 2014, 12:52:16 AM
Hi,

Does anyone know how to select 3.3V from this board with code PGM-FTDI-BASIC.
There's a switch on the top which I assumed would change the output from 3.3V to 5V, but it doesn't do anything, the output is 5V regardless of where the switch is.
The sparkfun site talks about soldering a jumper.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam.

Hi! I updated the documentation on the FTDI Basic programmer page. Basically pin 3 of the 6 pin connector is always 5V, as marked on the PCB. See FTDI Programmer product page (http://modtronix.com/pgm-ftdi-basic.html) for detailed information.

Hi, Thanks for adding the schematic.

I'm not an electronics engineer so I can't make out on the board the different capacitors to work out where the 3.3V is going. Are you able to take a photo of where the 3.3V out is, so I can solder a jumper?  Thanks, Adam.

Great, thanks very much for the photo, now I'm a happy man I've had that explained  :-D
I did notice though that 3.3V comes from those two points regardless of the position of the switch.  So I think the descriptions inaccurate stating that you switch between 3.3 and 5V with the switch.
Thanks anyway, cheers Adam.
